Johannes Zahn, born 1990, started at an early age with cello and piano lessons. Until the age of 18, he successfully participated in several national and international competitions as a cellist and won numerous prices. In 2017 he finished his BA in Conducting at the Music University Hamburg (HfMT), studying with Prof. Ulrich Windfuhr and Prof. David de Villiers. He will now continue his studies in Zurich in the class of Prof. Johannes Schlaefli. Since 2013, he has conducted several orchestras, including the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, Festival Strings Lucerne and the Chamber Orchestras of Lübeck, Mannheim and Stuttgart. Johannes regularly works as the Assistant Conductor for the New Philharmonia Orchestra Munich. In masterclasses, Johannes received valuable advice from Bernhard Haitink, Alan Gilbert and Prof. Alexander Rumpf. Following the !1 Festival, Johannes was awarded the Robert J. Harth Conducting Prize, which allows him to return to the festival in 2018 as a Conducting Fellow.
