Italian conductor Giancarlo Rizzi graduated from the Sibelius Academy with Leif Segerstam in orchestral conducting in 2013. There he also studied with Jorma Panula and Atso Almila.
In 2013, he made his debut with Sinfonia Lahti and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2015 with the Turku Philharmonic orchestra. In 2012, he was assistant to Sakari Oramo with the West Coast Kokkola Opera Festival, and assistant to Kristian Järvi with the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic. In 2013, he was assistant to Mikko Franck, making his debut at the Finnish National Opera. He was among the three finalists of the Princess Astrid Conducting Competition 2014 with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
