Benjamin Schäfer


Benjamin Schäfer was born in Saarbrücken in 1985 and started to play percussion at the age of 7. In 2005 he began to study music by Prof. Franz Lang at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik Trossingen, where he had also the opportunity to study timpani with Guido Rückel, Jochen Brenner and Robert Cürlis. He was Timpanist and Percussionist in many renowned Youth Orchestras: Bundesjugendorchester, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, European Union Youth Orchestra and Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. Since 2008, he has been Solo Timpanist in the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. Now he is focusing on his career as a conductor. He has the privilege to study with Professor Manfred Schreier, the world-renowned organist Christian Schmitt and Maestro Emmanuel Krivine, who have become his mentors. He took part in many Masterclasses, like the one hold by Jorma Panula, Mark Stringer and Ilona Mesko with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra Budapest 2013/2014 (3rd prize).
