German conductor Aki Schmitt studied violin and music theory in Essen and conducting in Stuttgart with Per Borin. He has conducted, for example, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra Reutlingen and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. At Stuttgart Opera School, Schmitt conducted Verdi’s Falstaff.
He works in close collaboration with Bertrand de Billy, Mario Venzago, Roland Kluttig and Johannes Kalitzke and acts as musical assistant and pianist for contemporary operas at the National Theater Mannheim. Schmitt utilises historically informed practice with his chamber orchestra Acroama Animata.
